Morgan-Andrew King is a 21 year old bass-baritone from Waikato. He has finished his Bachelor of Music with Honours from the New Zealand School of Music where he studied under the tutelage of Wade Kernot, Dr. Margaret Medlyn and Dr Jenny Wollerman. He is currently finishing his Bachelor of Biomedical Science at Victoria University of Wellington.
Morgan-Andrew has been singing from a young age and has participated in many kapahaka and choral groups. He was the leader of the New Zealand Secondary Students Choir 2017-2018, which toured to Hong Kong and Shanghai. He is a also member of the quartet, Tokowha, that perform regularly around Wellington and will tour across the country in collaboration with Chamber Music New Zealand in April 2022.
He portrayed in the New Zealand School of Music production of Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi as Betto di Signa and Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld as Jupiter. He also portrayed in the Day’s Bay Opera production of Bellini’s La Sonnambula as Alessio. He attended the 2021 New Zealand Opera School programme and recently won first place at the Napier Coldicutt Aria Competition; and second place at the Wellington Vocal Competition – Aria Finale and the Te Awamutu Aria Finals. He has had masterclasses with Simon O’Neil, Jonathan Lemalu and Dame Malvina Major.
